October 16th Update
As of 5 days ago I have been CrossFitting (and, therefor, working out) for 3 months. That means I've been eating healthy for roughly 2 months. I have more progress and workout pictures to post, but before I do that, a little bit of a reflection on all of that.
The CrossFit workouts continue to kick my ass. It never gets easier, you just use heavier weights and do more reps, but it's always painful. I've never done a workout program or routine that I've enjoyed as much as this. And I've never felt like I was getting as much as I'm getting out of this.
As for food, I'm getting down the foods I want to consume on a regular basis, but I haven't worked out a food routine quite yet. But here are the foods that currently make up a majority of what I eat:
- Kale (tastes like absolute ass raw on its own, but it's supposed to be very healthy)
- Cucumber (not eating as much of this as I should. I often forget about it in my refrigerator)
- Almonds (eat this as kind of a snack)
- Bell Peppers (usually green, but I did get a red one last time I was at the store. I don't know if there's a difference)
- Turkey and Ham (I buy them prepackaged currently as the deli is usually closed by the time I make it to the grocery store)
- Bread (for sandwiches using the kale, turkey, ham and peppers)
- Olive Oil (haven't been drinking this much lately, but it's a very good source of healthy fat)
- Coconut Oil (same as above)
- Apples, Grapes, and other miscellaneous fruits
- Isagenix shakes (there's a protein shake and a meal replacement shake that are part of my daily routine; more on that here: http://isagenix.com/ww/en/country_selector.dhtml )
I'm still expanding my diet, but this is the baseline or foundation if you will. I eat these things throughout the day, and then when I'm at work I eat whatever the boat has for us that day. I don't eat unhealthy foods much, or in very very low amounts during the week. On weekends I relax my diet a little bit. Usually I do it on one of the two weekend days, but sometimes I'll do it a little bit on both where I'll kind of just let my taste buds decide what I'm going to eat. This doesn't always go well, but as I've grown accustomed to eating healthier, my sweet tooth has mellowed out a little bit, and I actually enjoy snacking on healthier things like the fruits and nuts mentioned above.
The combination of CrossFit and healthy eating has allowed me to make what I feel is a pretty impressive transformation in such a short period of time after 2 and a half years of almost NO physical activity whatsoever and very unhealthy eating to go with it.
